Mary’s Miracle

THEME

The Christmas Story

MEMORY VERSE

Saying the memory verse together at suppertime will imprint it on the hearts of your children forever.

Matthew 1:23

The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him “Immanuel” – which means, “God with us.”

NOTES

This retelling of the Christmas story is a beautiful way to bring the story alive. Mary and Joseph were real people, with misgivings and doubts as well as faith when they were called to be the earthly parents of God’s son. We hope you and your family will enjoy this and that it will enrich your Christmas celebration.

GOOD QUESTION

This question is meant to help the children develop a biblical understanding of God, who He is and what He does. The "answer" is not meant for parents to read to their children. Rather its purpose is to assist parents in guiding the conversation to this biblical understanding. We encourage you to use an open Bible in this conversation, building biblical literacy and well as a biblical theology.

Q.

What name was Joseph and Mary told to give to the baby? What does that name mean? What does it tell us about Jesus? Why is this important for us to know?

A.

They were told to name the baby Jesus, because he would save his people from their sins. Jesus was born to save, and when we belong to him we are saved from our sins and belong to God's family. Jesus is also called Immanuel, which means "God with us." This tells us that Jesus is always with us (Matthew 28:20

).

SO WHAT?

Who can you tell the story of Christmas to this year? Who do you know who needs to know Jesus?
