Memory Verse

26 During the meal, Jesus took some bread in his hands. He blessed the bread and broke it. Then he gave it to his disciples and said, “Take this and eat it. This is my body.” 27 Jesus picked up a cup of wine and gave thanks to God. He then gave it to his disciples and said, “Take this and drink it. 28 This is my blood, and with it God makes his agreement with you. It will be poured out, so that many people will have their sins forgiven.

Reflect

Did you know Communion is a special way to learn more about Jesus? When we see the bread and the cup at church, they help us remember what Jesus did. The bread stands for Jesus’ body, which he gave for us. The cup stands for his blood, which he gave so our sins could be forgiven. These things aren’t magic; they’re signs and symbols to help us remember Jesus’ love. When we eat and drink during Communion, we remember how much Jesus loves us and what he did to save us.

Challenge

Take some time this week to read Matthew 26:17-30 and talk with your parents about Communion and what it means. Think about the symbols of the bread and the juice. And pray a thanksgiving prayer like this that also asks for Christ’s forgiveness of your sins:

“God, you are holy, and we thank you for sending Jesus, your Son. Jesus showed your love by teaching, healing, and welcoming everyone who came to him. Through his death and resurrection, you gave us new life and made us your people. We remember Jesus when we see the bread and cup. We praise you with joy, knowing that Christ has died, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again. Amen”
