Bible Readings

Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.

Psalm 121

Memory Verse

Job 12:7-10

7 If you want to learn, then go and ask the wild animals and the birds, 8 the flowers and the fish. 9 Any of them can tell you what the Lord has done. 10 Every living creature is in the hands of God.

Big adventures, like hiking the Himalayas or canoeing down a mighty river, sound exciting, but they can be expensive and require a lot of training! But guess what? You don’t need fancy gear to have an adventure. You and your family can have a microadventure—a fun, simple trip right in your neighbourhood!

Here are some ideas:

  • Take a walk, stroll, or ride in your neighbourhood and see what’s new! Try a different route each time.
  • Explore nearby hiking trails. Take pictures of waterfalls, cool trees, and animals you see along the way.
  • Challenge yourself by biking or traveling on a longer path—maybe even one that leads to a new town!
  • Try geocaching. It’s a really good way to explore your local community. If you search online for geocaching, you’ll find the coordinates for over a million geocaches hidden all over the world.

Microadventures are full of surprises! Once, my hiker friends and I spotted some deer and watched them for what seemed like an hour. Another time, we (carefully!) crossed paths with a skunk—yikes! We met a photographer who taught us cool tricks for taking photos of flowers. We even got a free ferry ride across a river just to explore the other side! My friends and I have crawled through caves, climbed over rocks, and discovered hidden waterfalls. Every adventure becomes a new memory!

The best part? Microadventures help us see how amazing God is! Every time we explore, we can stop and think, “Wow, God makes awesome stuff!” The Bible says in Job 12:7-10 that nature teaches us about God. The forests, rivers, and beaches all show his handiwork. And another part of enjoying his world is loving the people in it! Along the way, you might hear fun stories from fellow adventurers and find interesting places built by people long ago.

So, what are you waiting for? Get outside and start your own microadventure today!

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for the amazing world you created, full of forests, rivers, and new places to explore. Help us see your beauty in every little adventure and appreciate the people we meet along the way. Please fill our hearts with curiosity, joy, and gratitude as we discover more of your wonderful creation. Amen.
