Psalm 136
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Always be joyful 17 and never stop praying. 18 Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do.
Jasper looked under the couch. He looked under his bed. He even borrowed his mom’s phone to look under the oven. He could not find his toy spaceship anywhere. He was supposed to bring it to school today for the space diorama he and his best friend Sam had made. He had to catch the bus in 10 minutes. “Dear God, please help me find it,” he prayed desperately as he searched his bedroom for the millionth time.
“Time to go!” called his mother from downstairs.
Frantically, Jasper looked around the room one more time. He couldn’t let Sam down. As he trudged to the door feeling defeated, he picked up his sweater. As he swung it on, the spaceship tumbled out of a pocket. Jasper grabbed it and ran out the door. “Thank you, God,” he happily whispered.
Climbing onto the bus, he wondered if it was okay to thank God for something as little as finding a lost toy spaceship.
Have you ever wondered if it’s okay to thank God for really little things? 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 encourages us to thank God no matter what is happening—and that includes finding something you lost and really need for school. We don’t only have to thank God for the big things. The little things matter to him too. As Psalm 136 repeats over and over, “God’s love never fails.” He wants to help you out, even if it’s just finding part of your school project.
