Discovering the Names of God: Four Devotions to Grow Kids' Faith

Discovering the Names of God: Four Devotions to Grow Kids' Faith

May 15, 2025

Our constantly changing world is full of many voices, so helping kids understand who God is can anchor them in truth, courage, and compassion. Natasha Menifee, a teacher, Christian leader, and devoted mom, has written this four-part devotion series that highlights God's unique names. As children know more about God, their relationship with him can deepen and guide them.

1. The Father of Compassion. Joseph forgave his brothers after all the pain they caused him, showing mercy just as God had shown him. Our goal as parents is to teach our children about the love of God and how to share it with everyone around them.

2. I AM Who I AM. When Moses doubted himself, God reminded him that he is always present and powerful. We can stand up for what’s right because God is with us.

3. The Lord Is My Peace. Gideon felt unqualified for God’s call, but God gave him peace and courage to move forward. We can trust God even when we feel small or unsure.

4. The Righteous God. Doing what’s right matters—even without recognition. God's righteousness models how we treat others, even when no one is watching. Living with integrity brings a deeper reward.

These devotions help kids learn about God's amazing names and what they mean. Each devotion gives practical ways for kids and families to grow in their faith—by being kind, brave, peaceful, and doing what’s right. When kids understand who God is, they start to see who they can be, too.
