Lent is a 40-day period before Easter that many Christians use to grow in their faith. Just like Jesus spent 40 days in the desert preparing for his public ministry, Lent is a time for us to prepare ourselves for the celebration and meaning of Easter. Many Christians choose to “give something up” or fast during Lent. They might skip a meal or deny themselves certain luxuries or activities, like eating sweets or fast food, or watching TV or playing video games, and use that time instead to focus their hearts on their need for Jesus Christ.
Below are five devotions you can share as a family to help your children understand the value and purpose of the annual season of Lent to prepare us for Easter. You can also listen to them on our website or your favorite podcast platform.
Lent: Jesus Prayed for You and Me. Jesus spent the last night before his death eating the Passover meal with his disciples. Jesus prayed for God to protect his disciples and for everyone else who would have faith in God.
Lent: Jesus' Sacrifice for Us. Why did Jesus have to die? That’s one of the big questions we may have during Lent.
Lent: God's Will Be Done. Jesus wanted to obey God, for God’s will to be done. God heard his prayer and sent an angel to strengthen him.
Lent: Jesus Loves Me. Jesus showed love every moment of his life through his actions and his words. He showed the most incredible love by sacrificing himself on the cross.
Good News at Easter. After he rose from the dead, Jesus appeared to the disciples and said he would send them out to share the good news: Jesus is alive and he loves us!
