Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.
1 First of all, I ask you to pray for everyone. Ask God to help and bless them all, and tell God how thankful you are for each of them. 2 Pray for kings and others in power, so we may live quiet and peaceful lives as we worship and honor God. 3 This kind of prayer is good, and it pleases God our Savior. 4 God wants everyone to be saved and to know the whole truth, which is, 5 There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us.
1 Timothy 2:1-5
Ephesians 6:18
18 Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God's people.
Sabrina was excited to spend the weekend at her friend Carmen’s house. All week, they planned what they would do, eat, and even wear. They would watch movies, play at the park, and eat pizza. The girls even had matching pajamas for the weekend. One event on the list was to go to church with Carmen and her family. Sabrina was excited about the sleepover but nervous about going to church.Â
Sabrina’s family did not attend church often, and she was not sure what she was supposed to do or say. Over the weekend, Carmen’s mother, Mrs. James, noticed Sabrina became anxious whenever they discussed church on Sunday. That night, Mrs. James checked on the girls before bed. She asked, “Sabrina, do you have any questions before we go to church tomorrow? We want you to be comfortable with your visit.” Sabrina shared with them that she was unsure how to act or what to do at church and even thought about asking to go home before the family went to church.
Carmen and her mother talked to Sabrina about Sunday school and the teacher, Mrs. Watson, and what the class is like. They told her what the church service would be like and answered her questions. Carmen asked her mother, “Is this something we could pray for Sabrina about?” “Yes, it is!” her mother said joyfully. Carmen prayed, thanking God for who he is and what he has done. She asked for forgiveness for speaking badly to her brother and thanked God for letting Sabrina visit for the weekend. She asked God to help Sabrina not be nervous about church and that she would have a good time there. After Carmen said “Amen,” Sabrina hugged Carmen and said, “Thanks. I’ve never had a friend pray for me before.” Looking at Mrs. James, she said, “I think I’ll go to church tomorrow.”
