Reflect

In this episode, Liz and the gang go into detective mode to try to get to the bottom of some of the troubling changes in Terrene.

I Samuel 17 tells a familiar story about young man going through some changes of his own. David had been chosen to be the next king of Israel, but he was still waiting for that to happen. Talk about an uncertain future! When would he get to be king? What would happen to his family? How would he, a shepherd, learn how to run a country?

In the middle of this uncertain time, his dad gives him a job to do: go bring lunch to his brothers on the battlefield. Did David say, “Dad, future kings do NOT deliver lunches!”? No. He obeyed his father, and it’s a good thing he did! When he came to the battlefield, a giant was coming out to challenge the army of Israel. Though he was young, David’s faith was strong, and he knew that with God’s help, he could defeat the giant. This would be a strong lesson for the future king!

David showed that by trusting in God and obeying, even in times of uncertainty and waiting, young people can make a big impact in God’s kingdom. Is there a place in God’s kingdom that needs you?

Challenge

Is there a place in God’s kingdom that needs you? Is there something that you are passionate about? Is there brokenness in the world that pulls on your heart? You are not too young to do something!

Talk to an adult and brainstorm: How can you help? Can you make cards or posters? Write letters? Raise money? Grab some friends and get them in on the action too! Remember: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4: 12).
