Helping Kids Deal with Fear

Helping Kids Deal with Fear

July 8, 2026

We don’t want our children to be afraid or have to deal with fear at all, but living in a broken world, fear is a normal part of life. We also want them to know and believe that God is with them wherever they go and whatever is happening, even when they’re afraid. When my daughter was younger, she would occasionally wake me in the middle of the night, saying she was scared or had had a bad dream. Taking her back to bed, I would pray for her, but also encourage her to pray and to trust that God was right there with her, even in her dreams. Over time, she became more confident that God comforted her when she felt afraid. A child’s fear can make parents feel helpless. But we are not helpless, because God is with us in this, too.

Read these six devotions together as a family to talk about what God says about fear and what we can do when we’re scared. You can also listen to them on our website or your favorite podcast platform.

Sorting Out Our Fears. Fear can feel big and hard to manage. The best news is that God is always with you, ready to help you sort out your fears!

Don't Be Afraid. God’s promises are greater than anything that makes you afraid.

Courage to Face the Giants. Courage isn’t about being fearless. It’s about trusting that God is with you and taking a step forward anyway.

God Is Here! God promised to be with Joshua through all the challenges he faced. We have that same promise from God. God is with us wherever we go.

Trusting God's Plan. It's okay to admit something is scary. We can trust God to be true to his word.

Talking About God When We’re Scared. It can be scary to step out of your comfort zone and tell someone about God. But don’t let your fear hold you back.
