Six Children’s Devotions About Community Building and Hospitality

Six Children’s Devotions About Community Building and Hospitality

February 19, 2026

God created us for community with himself and with one another. Our relationship with God is to be the basis of our relationships with others. Jesus affirmed this when he identified the greatest commandment: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40 NIV). Read the six devotions below together as a family to explore what building community through friendship and hospitality looks like in our daily lives. You can also listen to them on our website or your favorite podcast platform.

Welcome the New Kid. What does it look like to care for a stranger, like a new kid at school? It can start with just saying hello!

Join Us for Dinner. Are there neighbors that your family could invite over for a meal?

Be Quick to Listen. Listening is a skill that requires practice to become good at. What makes someone a good listener?

Questions Show Care. Show your friends that you care about them by being curious and asking questions. Ask about things that you know interest them.

Helping Hands. Humble Hearts. We all need help sometimes. Have you ever been asked to be a helper?

God's Global Community. The book of Genesis tells us that God created us “in his image.” That means all people are loved and valuable in God’s eyes!
