Bible Readings

Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.

Matthew 9

Memory Verse

Matthew 18:12

“What do you think?” (NIV)

Think about all the sentences that Jesus said in the Bible. Can you even quote a few of them?

Now, check out an example of some of the things that Jesus said in Matthew 9. Jesus asks four questions - can you find them? How many of Jesus’ sentences in the Bible do you think were questions? Can you guess? The answer is 339! Do you think that’s a lot?

Why do you think Jesus asked people all these questions? What did he want to find out? Maybe what they thought, what they wanted, or what they believed? Why was Jesus so curious?

Jesus asked people many questions like, “What do you think?” (Matthew 18:12); “What do you want me to do?” (Mark 10:51); “How do you read it?” (Luke 10:26). Jesus wanted to be sure that people knew that he cared for them, so he asked questions—339 of them (that we know of)!

Show your friends that you care about them by being curious and asking questions too. Focus on them by asking how they are and how their day is going. Ask them about what you know interests them. Listen carefully to their answers and show them that you heard them. Then, do a deeper dive because you are interested in them. When they ask you questions, be open and share. Look for times to pray together.

Questions help to build interesting conversations and positive relationships. Asking questions is hard because we might want only to talk about ourselves, but what we’ll end up sharing is worth the challenge.

Prayer

Dear God, I pray that I may be curious about the people around me. I pray that I may ask questions to help me understand and show my care to those around me. Amen.
