Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.
13 Are any of you wise or sensible? Then show it by living right and by being humble and wise in everything you do. 14 But if your heart is full of bitter jealousy and selfishness, don't brag or lie to cover up the truth. 15 This kind of wisdom doesn't come from above. It is earthly and selfish and comes from the devil himself. 16 Whenever people are jealous or selfish, they cause trouble and do all sorts of cruel things. 17 But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere. 18 When peacemakers plant seeds of peace, they will harvest justice.
James 3:13-18
Proverbs 13:20
20 Wise friends make you wise, but you hurt yourself by going around with fools.
Andy’s grandpa loves to ask him, “What’s one way that God has blessed you today?” He listens carefully, shares his stories, and enjoys their conversations. But sometimes, Andy just wants to answer quickly and move on. Andy sometimes rolls his eyes when Grandpa asks him for a real story instead of just one word.
Recently, Andy texted his mom about a fun weekend. He asked, “Any good stories? Anything cool you saw?” Then he laughed and thought, “Wow, I sound like Grandpa!”
Proverbs 13:20 encourages us to find wise friends. Who do you think is wise? Who can teach you about God and the Bible?Â
God has given us wise people in our lives. That wise person might be why you are listening to or reading this devotion today!
We can learn the stories of our grandparents and parents and see how God works in their lives. They can show us how to read the Bible, pray, and serve others. They’ll celebrate with us when we accept Jesus into our hearts.Â
Ask your parents to help you find wise mentors in your family, church, school, or neighborhood. The more we live out our faith together, the more we can help each other grow.
