Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.
1 2 Only God can save me, and I calmly wait for him. 3 God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe and the fortress where I am secure. 4 I feel like a shaky fence or a sagging wall. How long will all of you attack and assault me? 5 You want to bring me down from my place of honor. You love to tell lies, and when your words are kind, hatred hides in your heart. 6 Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him. 7 God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe, and he is the fortress where I feel secure. 8 God saves me and honors me. He is that mighty rock where I find safety. 9 Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each of your concerns. God is our place of safety. 10 We humans are only a breath; none of us are truly great. All of us together weigh less than a puff of air. 11 Don't trust in violence or depend on dishonesty or rely on great wealth. 12 I heard God say two things: “I am powerful,
Psalm 62
Isaiah 41:10
10 Don't be afraid. I am with you. Don't tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.
Chance was having a hard time lately. He was feeling sad and lonely even though he hung out with friends each day. At home with family, he still felt like he was by himself in the world. He completed his daily activities like normal, but his face showed his true feelings. One day after Sunday school class his teacher, Mr. Williams, asked if he was okay. Chance shrugged and responded, “I don’t know, Mr. Williams. It just seems like I’m all alone, but I know I’m not. I have a great family and friends, but when I have problems, I don’t know who I can talk to. Strange, right?”
Mr. Williams patted Chance on the shoulder, smiled, and said, “Not at all.” He wrote a note on a piece of paper and handed it to Chance. On it was the verse Isaiah 41:10.
David the psalmist reminds us that when we feel afraid, lonely, and unsure, God is the answer (Psalm 62). David experienced God’s power and kindness in the middle of his trouble. Even though David’s situation did not instantly change, David recognized that God was always with him and that only God could save him. What changed was how David thought about his circumstances. God gave him peace.
Do you ever feel alone, even in a group of people? Maybe you think no one can help you solve a big problem. You may feel lonely and helpless, but God promised that he is with us. He promised to make us strong and be with us (Isaiah 41:10). He is a promise-keeper!
