Bible Readings

Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.

Psalm 78: 4-7

Memory Verse

Psalm 78:4

We won't keep secret the glorious deeds and the mighty miracles of the Lord. (CEV)

Print Comic

Have you ever played the game Telephone? Sitting in a circle, someone thinks of a message and shares it with the person next to her. Then that person tells the next, and the next until the last person receives the message. The message has changed by the time the secret reaches its final listener. Some of the words are mixed up. The meaning is jumbled.

Without the Bible, understanding God might feel just as confusing as a game of Telephone. The Bible is a collection of stories about God’s relationship with his creation, including you! Reading and sharing those stories helps us understand who God is, what the world is, and who we are.

But reading the Bible can feel a little confusing when we’re very young. Its stories contain a lot of characters, details, and plot twists. The big words, problems, and ideas can really challenge us. Don’t worry! And don’t give up!

Whenever we learn something new, we need lots of practice. Daily devotions in our families help us deepen our understanding of God’s big story. And it can be fun too. We can listen, look at pictures, act out the stories, and ask our wondering questions.

Like a game of Telephone, reading the Bible together helps us hear and share God’s message of love. But unlike Telephone, we don’t have to worry about mixed-up meanings and jumbled messages. The world changes, but God’s Word doesn’t. Experiencing God’s Word together each day can be a beautiful way to remember and practice sharing his promises with every generation.

Prayer

Thank you for the Bible and the story it tells us about your love. When we read it, help us to use our imaginations, ask big questions, and know that your truth never changes. Amen.
