Bible Verse

10 God planned for us to do good things and to live as he has always wanted us to live. This is why he sent Christ to make us what we are.  Ephesians 2:10

As parents, we want to inspire our children to see the beauty of God’s narrative unfolding in their lives. This week, our kids’ devotional encourages them to recognize that they are part of a big story that Jesus invites them into as we kick off our new series, God’s Grand Story. Ephesians 2:10 beautifully states, “God planned for us to do good things and to live as he has always wanted us to live. This is why he sent Christ to make us what we are.” So, how can we guide our children to see the stories that God is weaving all around them and that they’re living in his big, fantastic story?

Here are some ideas to spark conversations and help your child engage with God’s story:

1. Story Time Reflection. Read about Samuel’s call in 1 Samuel 3. Read it together, and take a moment to discuss what it means to listen for God’s voice. Ask your child how they think God might be speaking to them today. Encourage them to see that, just like Samuel, they have a unique role to play in God’s story. Make Bible stories a part of your everyday conversations, and watch as their understanding grows.

2. Spot God’s Work in Daily Life. As you go about your daily routine, help your child spot moments where God might be working. Did they lend a hand to a friend or witness an act of kindness? Celebrate those moments! You might say, “Wow, that was just like when Jesus welcomed the children. God is working through you!” By drawing these connections, you reinforce the idea that they are part of something much bigger than themselves.

3. Create a Family “God Sightings” Journal. How about keeping a fun journal together? Grab a notebook. and call it your "God Sightings" journal. Encourage your family to write down or draw things they’ve noticed that show God’s love or kindness in action each week. This encourages reflection and fosters a sense of gratitude and awareness. You can take turns sharing entries during family meals or bedtime, making it a special bonding time.

4. Encourage Conversations About Purpose. Take time to discuss Ephesians 2:10 with your child. Ask them what it means that God has planned good things for them and how they might live out their purpose each day. This could be as simple as helping a neighbor or being a good friend at school. The more you encourage them to think about their actions and impact, the more they will recognize their place in God’s story.

By helping our kids see themselves as active participants in God’s big story, we’re nurturing their faith and encouraging them to engage with the world around them. Let’s keep the conversation going! As we explore Ephesians 2:10, we can discover how beautifully God writes his story through our lives. Here’s to an exciting journey ahead, spotting God’s hand in every moment!
