Take a few minutes to read the Bible verses listed and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in how this verse applies to you this week.
1 The told me to give you these laws and teachings, so you can obey them in the land he is giving you. Soon you will cross the Jordan River and take that land. 2 And if you and your descendants want to live a long time, you must always worship the and obey his laws. 3 Pay attention, Israel! Our ancestors worshiped the , and he promised to give us this land that is rich with milk and honey. Be careful to obey him, and you will become a successful and powerful nation. 4 Listen, Israel! The our God is the only true God! 5 So love the your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. 6 Memorize his laws 7 and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you're at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. 8 Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and foreheads to help you obey them.
Deuteronomy 6:1-8
Deuteronomy 6:7
7 and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you're at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning.
Take a moment to draw your home.
What did you draw? Walls, a window or two, a door, and maybe a chimney with smoke coming out? Or perhaps you drew your family who lives there. A family who loves God and practices what it means to serve God. How is your family like the place you live in?
Just like an actual house, we need a foundation. Deuteronomy 6:5 describes a good foundation, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” The foundation is obedience to God’s laws. When your family decides to follow God faithfully, this is your family’s foundation. Then, in verse 7, the foundation is strengthened every time your family talks about obeying God.
Walls hold up the house, and a roof protects it from the wind and the rain. God protects your family, and you and your parents can read about God’s everlasting faithful promises in his Word. Together, you can learn the importance of obeying God’s commands. By knowing what is right and wrong, you will be able to make choices that build yourself and others up.
People don’t build houses without windows and doors. You would be stuck inside the house if they did! Windows allow you to look outside and see the light of God’s promises and the beauty of his creation. We can also see the brokenness in God’s world. The door allows us to step out from our home and into a world that needs our help and God’s restoration. God is calling your family to find ways to serve the neighbors and friends in your community faithfully.
Has your family chosen to commit to serving God? Have you? Your family can create a home that loves and faithfully obeys God! What a blessing!
